Apply a Hyperlink

  1. Highlight the text, click on the ‘Link’ button
  2. Enter the URL or permalink in the URL input field
  3. Click on the arrow button to apply

Note:  The cog wheel button or ‘Link Options’ enables you to check if the link should open in a new tab/window or select from existing content.

Internal Pages

When linking an internal page, you can either copy and paste a URL to the linking field or by selecting the page. The advantage of doing this is that even if the URL or permalink of the page ever changes, the link will always be connected to that page.

To hyperlink an internal page:

  1. Select the words or phrase to hyperlink
  2. Click on the chain link icon
  3. Click on the cog wheel or ‘Link Options’
  4. Search for the title of an existing page and select it.
  5. Click on ‘Add Link’

External Pages

To hyperlink an external page:

  1. Select the words or phrase to hyperlink
  2. Click on the chain link icon
  3. Type in or paste the hyperlink in the URL input field
  4. Click on the blue arrow button to apply

Emails

Creating email links is basically just like making a regular link, but instead of putting ‘http://’ in front, you would use ‘mailto:’ in front of the email address.

To hyperlink an email:

  1. Select the words or name to hyperlink
  2. Click in the chain link icon
  3. If there delete ‘http://’ in the URL input field
  4. Replace it with ‘mailto:email@tufts.edu’
  5. Click on the blue arrow button to apply
  6. Check that the link works.

PDFs & Documents

Once you upload a documents such as a PDF or Word document, you are able to link to the document via a hyperlink. PDFs open within the browser. Word documents automatically start downloading to user’s computer.

To get PDF/Document URL:

  1. Go to the Media Library
  2. Find the PDF/document you wish to link to and click on it
  3. On the top right side copy the link under ‘File URL’
  4. Copy this link
  5. Go to the page or post
  6. Click in the chain link icon
  7. Paste the ‘File URL’ into the URL input field
  8. Click on the blue arrow button to apply
